HYPLY - Elephantide / Polyfilm
GENERAL
HYPLY composites are flexible sheet materials with high mechanical strength produced by bonding polyester film to Elephantide electrical paper using synthetic adhesive. The polyester film enhances the electrical characteristics of the Elephantide and also greatly increases bursting strength. The electric strength is of the order of 12 kV per millimetre. HYPLY is rated as a Class E (120°C) insulation.
APPLICATIONS
HYPLY composites find use predominantly as electric motor slot and overhang insulation on Class E rated machines. These composite materials are also used in air and oil cooled transformers and on domestic appliances, as terminal shields, etc.
HYPLY composites being mechanically strong are able to withstand the rigours of automatic slot liner insertion machines and also the subsequent automatic winding of stators, etc. The composites will punch and ‘crease’ form into finished components without major loss of electric strength.

APPLICATIONS
The laminate is suitable for use in fractional to the largest rotating electrical equipment as slot, phase and end turn insulation.
It can also as ground and wrapper insulation in dry type transformers as well as in a variety of punched and fabricated parts.
THERMAL PROPERTIES
These laminates meet the requirements of MIL-1 -22834 and MIL-1-91 7D and have both Class B (130°C) and Class F (155°C) Underwriters Laboratories recognition for motors, transformers and coil assemblies. The DMD, polyester mat/polyester film laminates meet the requirements for Hermetic systems.

Nomex 410
GENERAL
Type 410 is a calendared insulation paper which offers high inherent dielectric strength, mechanical toughness, flexibility and resilience. Type 410 is the original form of Nomex paper and is widely used in a majority of electrical equipment applications.
APPLICATIONS
Type 410 is used in almost every known application for electrical sheet insulation.
THERMAL PROPERTIES
The effects of long-time exposure of Nomex to high temperature are the basis for the recognition of Nomex paper as insulation suitable for use in 220°C by Underwriters laboratories, the U.S. Navy, and others, and are confirmed by more than 25 years’ commercial experience.
CHEMICAL STABILITY
The compatibility of Nomex aramid paper with virtually all classes of electrical varnishes and adhesives (polyimide’s, silicones, epoxies, polyesters, acrylics, phenolics, synthetic rubbers, etc.) is demonstrated by the many UL recognised systems. Nomex papers are also fully compatible with transformer fluids (mineral and silicone oils and other synthetics) and with lubricating oils and refrigerants used in hermetic systems.

Nomex 411
GENERAL
Type 411 is the uncalendared precursor to Type 410. It is available in five thicknesses
(5(.13mm) to 23 mils (.58mm), with a specific gravity of .3.
It has lower electrical and mechanical properties than 410
APPLICATIONS
It is used in applications such as motor phase insulation and transformer coil end filler, where high bulk and conformability are of prime importance. Type 411 offers increased impregnability and saturability when compared to type 410.
